Blockdaemon, an independent blockchain infrastructure platform & staking-as-a-service provider, today announced a new partnership with Energy Web, a global nonprofit organization building operating systems for energy grids using open-source decentralized technologies.

As a certified Energy Web validator node operator, Blockdaemon will work to support the success of the Energy Web Foundation and ecosystem. Energy Web’s digital operating systems for energy utilize the application of blockchain. It represents one of the largest and most ambitious uses of a decentralized, open-access, consumer-facing blockchain that the world has seen to date.

“We are excited to help with the energy transition of the world by supporting the Energy Web Chain and its ecosystem participants. Anyblock has been a validator and active participant from day 1. Now, as part of the Blockdaemon team, we happily continue this collaboration and are looking forward to help expand to the Polkadot universe and offering staking opportunities.”
– Freddy Zwanzger, Ethereum Ecosystem Lead at Blockdaemon

Because the Energy Web Chain is managed by known entities in the energy sector, upgrades to the network can be rolled out seamlessly. This avoids contentious hard forks which split many blockchains in governance disputes over the future of the protocol.

Another advantage is custody and maintenance. The Energy Web Foundation is building sophisticated tooling on top of the blockchain to help its many partners and its users. This gives a great deal of material support to the Energy Web ecosystem and paves the way for future success. It differs from other Web3 communities systems, which are often open-source and solely rely on volunteers.

By having a system focused on enterprise adoption of decentralized technologies, Energy Web Chain is best placed to achieve its vision of a sustainable network, reaching entities who want to use Energy Web’s dApps, SDKs, and utility packages.

“Companies like Blockdaemon are essential to bringing enterprise-grade versions of the Energy Web stack to life. Infrastructure services for decentralized applications are common outside the energy sector in the world of Web3. Blockdaemon is helping to bridge the gap by providing Web3 services to the Energy Web community of grid operators and energy majors.”
– Jesse Morris, CEO of Energy Web

Energy Web Token (EWT) Staking

Energy Web Token (EWT) will soon expand its staking mechanism. Staking will be key to operating the new energy grid. This energy grid comprises green energy assets, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

By staking, enterprises and even clean energy asset owners can commit to delivering the load (or battery for storage) or supply of electricity. The protocol can slash companies or users who do not deliver on commitments. Those who successfully deliver can earn extra rewards.

Staking is open to verified individuals only. All staking operators must create a Decentralized Identifier (DID) that is authorized to stake.

Parity Technologies + Energy Web

In partnership with Parity Technologies, Energy Web will launch the Energy Web Consortia Relay Chain. Parity Technologies is a leading Web3 software development company. They have built the core technology that supports Polkadot and Kusama, underpinned by Substrate.

Energy Web will leverage Substrate to allow energy sector institutions to deploy their own sovereign, customizable blockchains of their own or in partnership with other energy market participants. This offers enterprises the ability to customize their own bespoke chain, with governance and economics built-in.

Presently, Energy Web runs on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The launch of the Consortia Relay Chain represents an integration into one of the largest and fastest-growing Web3 ecosystems.
